Brandy seems like a bit of a throwback to have in your bar. Perhaps this is why it’s a bottle that I’ve opted to keep in a decanter. Brandy is produced by distilling wines or a fermented fruit mash. The standard bottle for your home bar will be the wine variety. Since it’s produced from wine, often wineries will produce a version, so this can be something to look for when visiting wineries if you’d like to add something more local to your bar.
A base brandy tends to be pretty cheap and it finds its way into a number of drinks, ranging from classics to even some Tiki drinks! You can also splurge for some cognacs, though like good whiskies you’ll often sip those straight, depending on what you buy.
