MANHATTAN

I tend to not order cocktails at “normal” bars. There are just too many variables if the bar doesn’t specialize in cocktails, in my experience. When I do, I consider the Manhattan to be one of the most reliable drinks you can order at a bar. Whiskey, sweet vermouth, bitters. Not complicated. And always delightful and you can call out a particular whiskey, if you don’t want to roll the dice on their well whiskey. I typically make mine a Makers.
Recipe
2 oz Rye or Bourbon
1 oz Sweet Vermouth
2-3 dashes Angostura bitters
Maraschino cherry garnish
Combine whiskey, vermouth and bitters in a cocktail shaker. Fill with ice and stir vigorously until thoroughly chilled. Strain into martini glass over Maraschino cherry.
