BLOODY MARY

bloody mary cocktail

The Bloody Mary. Perhaps the most universally known cocktail? Lots of room for improvisation with this one and I’ve tried a number of things to perfect mine over the years, at least for my tastes.  I’ve found the key to be a good tomato juice base as this will change the drink quite a lot.  After trying several, my go-to is Trader Joe’s Bloody Mary Mix, which has clam juice but isn’t salty like Clamato.  I also like to add some lemon or lime juice to add some zing.  The real fun comes with the garnishes.  From simple celery sticks and olives to more ambitious items like bacon-wrapped beef sticks and pickled okra, this is where your options are pretty endless!

Recipe

2 oz Vodka

2 oz Tomato Juice/Bloody Mary Mix

1/2 oz fresh lemon or lime juice

1 tsp Grated horseradish

1 tsp Worcestershire sauce

1 tsp Hot sauce

1/2 tsp salt

1/2 tsp cracked pepper

Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker.  Fill the shaker two-thirds full with ice and shake vigorously until thoroughly chilled, 15 seconds.  Strain into bucket glass or pint glass with ice and add preferred garnishes.
